Hi, I’m Tarma—not Tamara, not Tara, just plain old Tarma. Think of “Tarmac,” but without the “c.” I’m actually named after a village in Peru, where my dad once lived.
I started my creative journey by completing a Surface Pattern Design Degree and a PGCE many years ago. From there, I went on to teach Art and Textiles in schools and colleges across Cheshire. I even did some freelance embroidery design work for the fashion industry. Unfortunately, I had to step back from teaching to care for my disabled son.
But creativity is in my blood, and I’m determined to keep going! That’s why I’ve started running art and textile workshops at wonderful venues across Cheshire. These workshops are designed for all abilities, so whether you’re a total beginner or an experienced maker, you’re welcome to join.
No prior knowledge or artistic experience is needed, and I provide all the materials. I’ll guide you through each step of the process, sharing plenty of my own work to inspire you along the way.

The Workshops
Silk Painting Workshops
Immerse yourself in the captivating world of silk painting, where the beauty of accidental effects is truly celebrated. In our workshops, you will work with both Habotai and Ponge silk, choosing from over 70 exquisite designs to inspire your creations. You'll learn various painting techniques, including wet-in-wet, wet-on-dry, and the unique application of rock salt, all while exploring a vibrant palette that features metallic colors like gold, bronze, silver, and pearl white. Many workshops are themed around seasons or special occasions, such as Christmas Suncatchers, Autumn Foliage, and Summer Garden, allowing you to create pieces that resonate with the time of year. The silk pieces you can craft include silk scarves, framed art, suncatchers, cushion covers, and ties, all of which can be personalized with names and embellished with seed and bugle beads. Whether you choose to keep your creations or gift them, each piece is a beautiful handmade treasure waiting to be discovered. Join us and let your creativity flourish!

Heat Transfer & Embroidery Workshops
This workshop was inspired by my love for the coast, which stems from years of family holidays in Pembrokeshire and North Wales. I have been able to capture the beauty of the coast through my paintings, which I then transfer onto fabrics using a heat press. I enhance these prints with various embroidery stitches and beads. I am now offering this as a workshop, where participants can use my imagery to create their own artwork. The process involves printing the chosen image onto fabric using the heat press and then using a variety of threads and beads to add embellishments. By the end of the workshop, participants will have a stunning piece of artwork displayed in a painted embroidery hoop, which can be hung at home or given as a gift. I am also exploring other themed heat transfer workshops, so stay tuned for more updates.

Painting Workshops
Explore the art of painting in various styles through a series of classes that delve into art history and the different movements and artists. We will start by learning about the artist/movement and their place in the art world, and then create a painting in their style.

Do you require upfront payment?
You can pay for the workshops securely online through our booking provider TixTree using Paypal. All bookings are paid for in full at the time of booking.
Do I need to bring anything?
Just yourself. I will provide an apron and all the materials you will need.
